Muir's Tours - polar bears

Enthusiast Polar Bear Tours

These are the polar bear tour options with general interest aspects as well as polar bear watching on the tundra in the safety of the Tundra Buggy. In common with the Specialist Tours, Enthusiast Tours visit Gordon Point, a favoured place for watching the bears.

The tour leader / guide on the Enthusiast Tours is not a qualified naturalist but they are well trained and they have excellent general knowledge of the area, the culture and polar bears. For your comfort there will be a maximum of 22 people on each "day buggy" although they are equipped with 38 seats, so you have more room for your camera etc.. Some of the Enthusiast trips include a helicopter flight in the price, all others it is an optional exra.

There are 2 types of Enthusiast Tour

1 - Overnight in the Tundra Buggy Lodge
By staying on the tundra overnight you have more time for viewing the bears and also a better chance to see the northern lights (aurora borealis). You stay on the tundra overnight in the warmth of an immobilised train of tundra vehicles, permanently positioned in one of the best places for viewing the bears.  All meals are provided while at the Tundra Buggy Lodge. The cabins are all singles and there are shared bathrooms (due to conservation measures there are limited facilities of 4 toilets / 2 showers to 35 people). There is a large common room and a dinning room. We provide a roving Tundra Vehicle (18 people per vehicle that was designed for 38, so there is plenty of space) for use during the day in case we need to seek out the bears.

2 - Rail / Flight Combination
An alternative to flying both ways is our options to fly in / train out or train in / fly out.
Staying overnight in Churchill at a guest house / small hotel.
The hotel in Winnipeg is usually the Sheraton Four Points. The train cabins are already reserved, but please book early to have your choice.
We provide a roving Tundra Vehicle (18 people per vehicle that was designed for 38, so there is plenty of space)

The option of rail travel is also available on tour types 1 & 2 above for an extra cost. Unless you are booking option 3 above the only way to get a cabin on the train is too book your main package and the train in December or early January - otherwise all the cabins will be fully booked.
