Arrangements to Lapland & Travel Insurance
Flights from the UK
Flights can be booked with SAS and Finnair or the low cost carriers - Ryan
Air and / or Norwegian Air Shuttle, see below for further detail and
examples.
Lakselv is the closest airport to our lodge, but there are less flights
going there at present, so we suggest your fly to Alta, Norway or Ivalo,
Finland.
Ideally you should have a flight schedule that has a day spare either end of
the trip as delays due to weather can be a problem.
The Flag Carrier Airlines
The
price varies all the time and you should check all options.
SAS
from London Heathrow to Oslo and finally Alta (airport
code = ALF). Alta airport is particularly convenient if you are
booking SM3, SM4 or SM5 as you start your sledding adventure in the far
north. For other sledding trips you need to travel by road from Alta to our
lodge in Karasjok. The journey by taxi will take about 2 1/2 hours
The
price range is from GBP290 - GBP450 per person. Book direct with SAS by
telephone 0208 990 7159 or website.

The
Finnair
price range is similar for
flights from London to Ivalo. Book direct on Finn Air. http://www.finnair.com/
You may wish to
consider using the low cost carriers
Ryan Air and Norwegian
Air Shuttle.
Ryan Air has flights
from London Stanstead to Oslo. Then you need Norwegian Air Shuttle to Alta.

Ground Transport
Transfers to Karasjok,
Norway
From Alta
- We can arrange a taxi for about GBP175 per
vehicle (up to 4 passengers) each way.
From Ivalo
- We can arrange a taxi for about GBP150 per vehicle (up to 4 passengers) each
way.
If arriving a day
early you could stay over in Alta or Ivalo and take the public bus to Karasjok,
from where we can collect you and take you to the lodge (free of charge -
Karasjok / lodge / Karasjok).
The bus will cost
about GBP40 - GBP50 per person each way. There are only a few buses each day,
so to use this service you do need to arrive the day prior to the start of the
dog sledding trip.
The bus from
Ivalo to Karasjok
will cost about GBP30 per person each way. There are only a few buses
each day, so you need to carefully plan the flight schedule, otherwise you
will need a hotel near the airport.
On your final day you
could be at the airport for 11 am by taxi (or earlier if you wanted an early start).
Allow at least 1 hour for checking in. The bus seems to go the long route back
to Ivalo and does not arrive in Ivalo until about 16:25.
Please allow as much
time as possible for the connections as the weather may cause delays. If you
need an overnight stay somewhere along your route, we can arrange this.
