If you agree with what we stand for, please consider joining others who are working together to put things right in the tourism industry
There is a growing concern in the travelling public that in general, tourism is unhealthy for the planet and the people / animals of the places we, the affluent few, travel to.
Is it right that others should suffer so that 2% of the world's population can party on the beach. However, tourism is not going to become sustainable on it's own, we need to change the way it affects others, giving them a positive benefit for a change. If you are moved to help poor people and defenceless animals then join a growing number of concerned travellers in the ETC.
How
does the ETC work ?
We each contribute a little time and a small amount of money and
collectively we are able to make a difference.
Can you spare some time (a couple of hours here, a few days there,
it all helps) whilst on your travels to research the situation
of certain communities and projects abroad, or in volunteering
for fund raising or admin work in the UK. We need to keep our
costs down so that more of the money our travellers spend stays
in the destination countries. There is a small army of volunteers
in the UK and the USA at present, but we need more good people
to make it happen quicker.
How
is the Contribution used ?
ETC members pay a once only contribution of £300 / $450
each towards the cost of continuing the research trips and projects
involving our own volunteers. This work is vital to ensure the
future of many people in the very poorest of nations, who are
dependent upon sustainable responsible tourism.
The
Benefits
Apart from the satisfaction of knowing you are helping, there
are big discounts off your future trips with the ETC. As a volunteer abroad you get very special deals, but when you take an ETC organised
trip, the price is discounted by £150 / $230 in the first
year of membership and then by £100 / $150 for each of the
next 4 years. You can only have 1 ETC discounted trip per membership
year.
The
Future
We need your suggestions and ideas, please let us know what you
would like from the ETC, or how can it be developed.
